剧情介绍：
幼年的狄青因把救生的马槽让给别人而被洪涛卷走，一位隐居山林的高僧救起了昏迷的狄青，并传授他武林绝技和为将之道。八年后，狄青在师父的劝说下放弃了出家为僧的念头，前往边疆投军，报效国家。初到开封的狄青打伤了仗势欺人的皇亲孙义后主动投案。在负责此案的包拯包大人和号称“侠王”的郑亲王的帮助下，狄青被无罪释放，并当上了郑亲王的贴身保镖。狄青奉命刺杀孙义失败，遭杖刑八十并监禁三月。在此期间，狄青通过包大人的悉心教诲意识到要懂法守法，不要成为头脑简单的私人保镖，而应把自己的才能贡献给国家。出狱后，狄青拒绝了金钱与美色的诱惑，毅然告别郑亲王，远赴边关投军报国。驻守边关的三军统帅杨宗保是杨家将的第三代传人，狄青投奔他后被安排在女将杨排风手下当步卒，因骁勇善战很快被提升为副将。屡犯边关的西夏王元昊热衷战争、作风凶悍，使宋军在交战时常处于下风。杨宗保没有及时采纳狄青的合理建议，导致会战失败，临终前推荐狄青为边关统帅。狄青不负重望，率领宋军击退元昊，并与西夏国签订了和平条约。
