剧情介绍：
这是一部经典的反映上世纪七十年代末至九十年代末中国社会、经济、思想大变革、大冲突时期当代中国人的奋斗、坎坷、矛盾、困惑、自省以及对人生价值定位的苦苦探索的故事。同时本剧以人性本质的纯真和人生奋斗的惨烈展现了人性的多面与复杂。上演了一部全景式的“人间悲喜剧”。本剧通过大学历史系教师马奇与山区失学少女丁小丽之间近二十年的情感纠葛，在弘扬“丁小丽”这样的普通人对待生活、爱情，具有执着、坚韧不拨的“阿信”式精神的同时，以怜悯的角度极其客观而入木三分地描写了一个中国典型知识分子“马奇”在改革开放环境下的从肉体到精神的沉浮生活。1978年国家恢复高考后到20世纪末这20多年的跨度里，通过一个知识分子的经历，透视出在特定时间、背景下社会各个阶层、人与人之间所面临的困惑、迷茫以及他们在面对家庭、事业产生的矛盾、冲突时的抉择。剧中由唐国强扮演的男主角名为马奇，他是一位大学历史系教师，离异后带着一个孩子。因为曾有过不幸的婚姻经历，使得他对爱情、婚姻、生活带有一种不信任的态度，为了舒缓压力，他到山区去考察，意外地碰上了一个穷困却极渴望读书的女孩丁小丽(谢兰饰)。在他的帮助下，女孩子走出了山区，一边工作一边在大学校园里旁听，最终她通过成人高考，成为了一名记者。而马奇因不满学校刻板的教学体制，最后走出校园，到海南“下海”经商，并与丁小丽最后走到了一起……
