剧情介绍：
明天启末年，内忧外患。熹宗病逝，魏忠贤图谋篡位，年轻的崇祯皇帝力挽狂澜，断然除去魏忠贤，雄心勃勃开始中兴大明。后金大汗皇太极虎视中原，率兵攻打北京，并以离间计让崇祯上当，杀了忠心耿耿的袁崇焕。边患从此日益加剧，而中原腹地，农民起义风起云涌，让崇祯焦头烂额。与此同时，他的个人感情也陷入了矛盾之中。皇嫂张嫣有恩于他，使他在敬重之中生出一丝超越伦常的依恋。绝色美女陈圆圆也倾心于他，让他引为知己。可他与陈圆圆的感情却被张嫣阻拦，他不忍心伤害张嫣，却反过来伤害了陈圆圆。陈圆圆大失所望，爱上了吴三桂。崇祯失去陈圆圆后，才感觉到这份感情的珍贵，他要重新夺回陈圆圆的心，倔强的陈圆圆却不肯就范。一向说一不二、刚愎自用的崇祯，没想到征服不了一个女人的心，恼怒之余，对陈圆圆产生了一种特殊的感情。张嫣心里放不下崇祯，向他曲折表露自己的心思，崇祯极为震惊，当即拒绝。但等张嫣黯然离去，他才发现，他真的爱着这位视若母亲的皇嫂。
